In the previous article “Did You Know Your App Can Use BlackBerry Enterprise Bridge Too?” I explained how your application could integrate with BlackBerry Enterprise Bridge to securely open a file from your BlackBerry Dynamics app in one of the Microsoft Office Mobile applications.

The initial release of BlackBerry Enterprise Bridge supported this one-way integration.  Version 1.1.0 – released in early October – adds the capability to send a file from a Microsoft Office Mobile application through BlackBerry Enterprise Bridge to your BlackBerry Dynamics app.  This allows for 2-way integration moving files into or out of your app.

A great aspect of this new feature is that your application may already support it!  BlackBerry Enterprise Bridge makes use of an existing BlackBerry Dynamics Shared Service to support the secure transfer from Microsoft Office applications to your app.  It uses the Transfer File Service, so if your application is a provider of this service, it’s already capable of supporting this.

Below are some screenshots showing this workflow, transferring the file to the AppKinetics sample that is included in the BlackBerry Dynamics SDK.  The sample will receive the file but does not display it as it doesn’t support rendering of Microsoft Office Files.

Step 1 – Choose to Share the file from Microsoft Word as an attachment

Step 2 – Choose BB Bridge

Step 3 – Choose Sample – AppKinetics

At this point the AppKinetics sample is opened and it receives the file.  Give this a try with your own application that implements the Transfer File service.
